Henry Mennenga

Henry S. Mennenga, 93, of Gladbrook, Iowa, died Monday, August 5, 2013, at Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 9, 2013, at French Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck, Iowa. Burial will follow at Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 9, 2013, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at French Hand Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Henry was born June 13, 1920, in Tama County, Iowa, the son of Seibe and Anna (Bulthuis) Mennenga. Henry grew up in the Reinbeck area and attended Reinbeck schools. After school Henry worked on the farm until he entered the Army serving his country from February10, 1941 until May 16, 1945. He was with the Red Bull Company D 34th Division during WWII where he received the Bronze Star. On October 4, 1948, Henry married Jeanne Osborn in Reinbeck, Iowa. They made their home on a farm in the Gladbrook area. He worked for the Gladbrook School as the custodian for 5 years. They then moved to Conrad, Iowa and Henry worked at Fisher Controls, where he retired from on July 1, 1985. He was member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg, Iowa and American Legion Post #681 of Conrad. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and sports especially the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Henry is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Michael and special friend Sharon, Marshall and wife Peggy, Marilyn Aldrich and husband Chuck; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Cavanaugh, Janet Brubaker; brothers, Walter, Roger and Robert(Dee).

He was preceded in by his parents; his sister, Annabell; his brothers, Charles and Jerry.
