Henrietta S. Buck, 96, of Ackley, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Gladbrook. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Henrietta was born on January 1, 1919 in Beaman, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Alvena (Paustian) Fink. She was raised in Grundy County and graduated from Grundy Center High School in the Class of 1936. Henrietta attended Iowa Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa, and then went on to teach for 44 years in Grundy County rural schools and later in Gladbrook Community schools, retiring in 1984. She was united in marriage to Robert Buck on July 18, 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together they welcomed their son Robert into their family.
She has always enjoyed cooking and she especially loved baking for her friends and family. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet and knit. Her true passion was her collection of nearly 10, 000 advertising pens and pencils she collected from businesses over her 96 years. She was also proud of her mug collection, of which she had over 150 mugs.
Henrietta is survived by her son Robert (Elena) Buck of Ackley, Iowa; her grandchildren Alysa Buck of Ackley, Eduardo Pena of Des Moines and Sabrina Cashner of Wichita KS; her sisters-in-law Carolyn Goettsch of Greer's Ferry, AK and Ruth Ballard of Marshalltown, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert and her brothers Dale, Vernett and Donald Fink.
