Henrietta Abels

Henrietta Abels, 99, died of natural causes on Sunday, October 9, 2005, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services, with Pastor Larry Hoop officiating, will be held at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Holland, Iowa, at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial gifts should be directed to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center has been entrusted in the care and services of Henrietta Abels.

Henrietta was born on her family?s farm in Colfax Township on July 15, 1906, the daughter of John C. and Grace (Kruse) Abels. She attended Colfax School #5, where she later would be the teacher, the Grundy Center High School and Grundy College. Henrietta has been a resident at Arlington Place since 2002.

Henrietta was a life-long member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church where she served in the youth and music ministries and as a teacher for both Sunday school and catechism classes. In her retirement, she was an avid listener and viewer of Christian radio and television broadcasts, and also maintained a vital interest in current events and politics.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
