Helen G. Peters, 95, of Eldora, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center under the care of Iowa Hospice.
Helen was born October 12, 1912, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Leverence) Eichberger the sixth of eleven children. After spending her first five years in the city, her family moved to a small farm in Foley, Alabama. Helen graduated from high school and then returned to Chicago. On June 26, 1937, Helen was united in marriage to Clifford John Doherty in Chicago, IL. After their marriage, she worked at Carson Pirie Scott as a quality assurance associate, assembled airplane parts at a war plant, and was a cook for Christ Community Hospital and then a kitchen coordinator at St. Xavier College. She moved to Whitten, Iowa in 1975 and later was united in marriage to Henry H. Peters on August 7, 1976. They later resided in Eldora. Helen was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Eldora. She enjoyed playing cards, going fishing, sewing and cooking. Most of all Helen enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Sanders and her husband Wayne of Phoenix, Arizona; Patricia Oppold and her husband Daniel of Eldora, Iowa; Grandchildren, Randy Sanders (Marci) of St. Helens, Oregon; Richard Sanders of Phoenix, Arizona; Robert Sanders of Phoenix; Tamara Menke (Jason) of Urbandale, Deborah See (Mark) of Desoto and Stacy Oppold (and her friend Elliot Uhl) of Eldora. Great grandchildren, Melissa (Mark) Miller, Andrew Menke, Carter Menke, Kennedy Menke and Abigail See; and one great-great grandchild, Dustin Miller.
In death she rejoined her parents; first husband, Clifford; infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Doherty; second husband, Henry; brothers, Joseph Jr., Walter, Lawrence, Raymond, James and Albert Eichberger; sisters Anne Bjorvich, Frances Eichberger, Frances Leonard, and Elizabeth Stapleton.
