Helen (Maronn)

June 29, 1916 — January 12, 2005

Helen L. Shafer, 88, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday, January 17, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.



Helen was born June 29, 1916, in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, daughter of August and Hiska (Bunjer) Trittien. She graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1934 then worked in Hampton for a few years before returning to Steamboat Rock. She was united in marriage to Herbert Maronn in 1936. They lived and farmed in the Steamboat Rock area until moving to a farm southeast of Eldora where they farmed until Herbert's death on July 30, 1963. Helen moved to Eldora in 1968 and was then married to Dale Shafer on February 22, 1969. Dale died on October 12, 1992. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she had been involved with the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening.



Surviving Helen are daughters, Adeline (Robert) Travis of Dubuque and Margaret (Mike) Crosby of Appleton, Minnesota; son, Marvin (Pat) Maronn of Eldora; and by five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her parents and both husbands; sister, Anna Elzig; and brothers, Dick, Hank, and Joe Trittien.
