Helen Cable

October 6, 1908 — August 27, 2006

Helen M. Cable, 97, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at 10:30 am at the Eldora United Methodist Church with Dr. Richard Boatman officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to Helen's family.



Helen was born October 6, 1908 in Eldora, daughter of William and Anna (Kuhfus) Ziesman. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1926 then attended the Iowa Teacher's College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. On February 2, 1935 she was united in marriage to Harold L. Cable in Eldora. Helen taught rural school in Hardin and Grundy Counties for 7 A� years then served as a nurse's aid at the Eldora Hospital for many years. She also stayed busy raising her family and helping as a farm wife on their farm in Pleasant Township. After Harold's death on June 7, 1960 Helen moved into Eldora. She was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, the Eldora Women's Club, and the Hardin County Historical Society. Helen enjoyed quilting, reading, and traveling.



Surviving are her daughters, Ann and her husband Richard Roll of Eldora, Neva and her husband Stan Granzow of Eldora, and Laura and her husband William Ruhnke of Florissant, Missouri; and by six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Preceding her in death was her husband, Harold; sisters, Vadna Eggleston, Hazel Lettow, and Lois Vierkandt; and by grandson, Ryan Roll and great-granddaughter, Jamie Granzow.
