Hazel was born on November 21, 1926 in Lawn Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Ora George & Anna Catherine (Schoborg) DeLawyer. The second of four children, Hazel grew up in Haverhill & State Center, Iowa and attended school in Haverhill until the 5th grade when her family moved to Liscomb. She graduated from the Liscomb Consolidated Schools in 1944. A month after graduation, Hazel's mother passed away and she remained at home to care for her younger brother and to help her father with their home. After a few years, Hazel began work at Marshall Manufacturing and worked there for several years. She then met William A. "Bill" Hollingworth and the two were united in marriage on December 5, 1950 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa. Bill passed away in 1976. Hazel and Bill welcomed 2 children to their family, a daughter Joy who was born on December 15, 1954 and a son Jay who was born on January 5, 1960. The family lived on a farm just west of town in Eldora and Hazel remained there until 2005, when she moved into town. For several years, Hazel worked at Dodger Gym as a seamstress, but she spent most of her years at home taking care of her children.

She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, sewing, needlework, square dancing and loved to go on bus tours throughout the United States, visiting every U.S. state including Hawaii and Alaska. Hazel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora and a former member of the Dreamer Camping Club.

Hazel is survived by her son Jay (Evelyn) of Northglenn, CO; son-in-law Robert Myers of Commerce City, CO; granddaughter Sarah Hollingworth of Northglenn, CO; sister Lucille Feldhus of Mason City, IA; many nieces and nephews and very close friend Pam Anderson.
