Harry Joe Pruin, 81, of Muscatine, Iowa formerly of Dike, IA, died Thursday, February 23, 2012, at Lutheran Homes Society in Muscatine, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Dike, Iowa with Pastor Dennis Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
Hary Joe Pruin was born February 16, 1931 at home in Grundy County, to Pete and Grace (Bulthuis) Pruin. The family moved to Dike, IA on March 1, 1937, where he attended school and graduated from Dike High school in 1951. On March 11, 1952 Harry entered the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War, fighting in several major engagements including "Old Baldy" and "Pork Chop Ridge". He worked as a machinist for Viking Pump in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1992 after 25 years of service. Harry enjoyed fishing, playing blue grass music on guitar, dobra and auto harp. He enjoyed the many winters he spend with his mother in Florida, even past her 90th birthday.
He is survived by his two sisters, Inez (Ed) McCarville of Dike, Mildred Goodell of Marion; sister-in-law Adele Pruin of Holland; a 99 year old aunt, Lyda Belthuis of Cedar Falls; 7 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bert Pruin and brother-in-law, Curtis Goodell.
