Harry Richard Folkerts, 86, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be 2:30 P. M., Saturday November 19, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Pastor Harrison Lippert will officiate. Burial will follow at the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 18, 2005, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Harry was born January 1, 1919, in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, the son of Rex and Minnie (Christians) Folkerts. Harry received his education in Steamboat Rock. On October 19, 1945, Harry was united in marriage to Lucille "Dolly" Eilers in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Harry worked as a construction contractor in Steamboat Rock. Harry resided in Steamboat Rock his entire life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock where he was a former trustee. He was a member of the Boat Club. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Harry enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his 3 children: Terry and his wife Janet Folkerts of Klemme, Iowa, Sara and her husband Dave Wolff of Aplington, Iowa, and Mary Jo and her husband Alan Betsinger of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 6 grandchildren Rex Folkerts, Angie Kershner, Josh Wolff, Lindsay Wolff, Sara Betsinger and Stacey Betsinger; 7 great grandchildren: Rhianna and Olivia Folkerts, Hannah, Gracelyn and Samuel Kerchner, Ellie and Jacob Wolff; a brother George and his wife Jeanette Folkerts of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, and a sister: Luella Patterson of Elgin, Iowa
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille "Dolly" Folkerts, and his parents.
