Harriet Ann Thede, 72, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Friday, April 21, 2006, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice, from complications of surgery. Following cremation, Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Union Congregational United Church of Christ, in Reinbeck, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Private family burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, The Reinbeck Library, or to the Union Congregational United Church of Christ.
Ann was born August 31, 1933, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Harry J. and Arlie E. (Strawn) Kemmerer. She was raised in Oelwein and was baptized and confirmed at Grace Methodist Church. Ann was educated in Oelwein. Ann married Sidney P. Johnson in Oelwein. Sidney died on January 31, 1976. On January 16, 1982, Ann was united in marriage to H. Junior Thede at Ann's home in Washburn, Iowa. After their marriage, they made their home in rural Reinbeck. Ann had worked at the Colonial Baking Company in Cedar Falls as the store manager. She had also worked for a time at Smith's Jewelry Store in Waterloo. Ann spent her remaining working years as a farmwife in rural Reinbeck. Ann was an active member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, where she had sung in the choir, served as a Deacon and also on the music committee. Ann was a member of the Card Club in Washburn for over forty-four years. She loved nature and her flowers. Ann loved to sing and she loved her grandchildren and her siblings, with which she had a strong bond. Ann loved her Lord and practiced her religion and expressed her strong faith. She was also a great artist, painting many pictures, and also quilting many quilts for her family members and also for church raffles.
She is survived by her husband H. Junior Thede of Reinbeck, Iowa; one daughter Debra Paine and her husband Mike of Reinbeck, Iowa; one son Matt Johnson and his wife Lynette Johnson of Melbourne, Iowa; one stepson Bruce M. Thede of Summerfield, North Carolina; one stepdaughter Debora Fitzgerald and her husband Steve of Denison, Iowa; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters Ida Schmadeke and her husband Elmer of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Bonny Simkins of Oelwein, Iowa; two brothers Gene Kemmerer and his wife Kate of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Tom Kemmerer and his wife Georgia of Mountain Home, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sidney P. Johnson; one son David Johnson; and one brother Dan Kemmerer.
