Harriet L. Hohenberger, 98, of Dike, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 29, 2024 at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital.
Harriet was born November 24, 1925, daughter of George A. and Annie (Van Deest) Tjepkes. She graduated from Dike High School in 1944. Harriet married the love of her life, Russell Samuel Hohenberger, June 28, 1946, after his return from serving overseas in World War II.
Together, Harriet and Russell operated their farm west of Dike for 44 years. They spent many years together traveling and sharing adventures until his passing in October 1989. After Russell’s passing, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, having her grandson, Ryan, visit every summer from Texas and eventually having him full time in Iowa. Harriet and Ryan had a very special bond which was evident in their love and dedication to each other. That bond later spread to her relationships with her great grandsons, Nolan and Callen; her special boys, as she so lovingly referred to them.
Harriet could often be found traveling, feeding the birds, tending to her flowers and yard and watching the sunset out of her kitchen window. Her love for animals was unmatchable, especially her kitties. She was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church for over 60 years as well as a member of the Dike American Legion Auxiliary.
Harriet is survived by her grandson, Ryan (Calayna) Hohenberger of Dike, and two great grandsons, Nolan and Callen Hohenberger of Dike. Preceded in death by her husband and parents, a son; Rodney Lee Hohenberger, daughter-in-law; Sally Hohenberger, grandson; Russell Lee Hohenberger, one brother; William (Bill) Tjepkes, two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
A viewing will be held from 9:00am to 10:00am on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Dike United Methodist Church in Dike, Iowa, followed by a funeral service at 10:30am. Please join the family for a time of sharing and food following the graveside services.
