Harold Williams

December 7, 1918 — May 13, 2006

Harold J. "Hal" Williams, 87, of Union, Iowa, died from natural causes on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Cory Larson officiating. Burial will follow in Rough Woods Cemetery near Eldora with military honors provided by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Visitation is from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.



Harold was born December 7, 1918, in Union, son of Grover and Esther (Norman) Williams. He was raised in the Union and New Providence area. He graduated from New Providence High School, and then attended the University of Southern California and the University of Iowa playing baseball for both universities. He was a WWII Veteran serving with the U.S. Coast Guard being stationed at Ellis Island, NY serving as Post Master.



He was married to Mabel Giesenberg in the early 1950s and she died in 1970. He was then united in marriage to Frances Holthuis Ramundt in 1972 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Harold farmed, raising Black Angus cattle and grain, and also served as Post Master in Union for over thirty years. He was a former member of the Union American Legion and enjoyed traveling throughout the world.



He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Pamela Quaggioto of New York; step-son, Dana (Pam Murphy) Ramundt of Des Moines; and by five grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his second wife, Mabel; step-daughter, Donna Jensen; sister, Ruth Wood; and brother, Charles.
