Harold Weichers, 87, of Wellsburg, died at his home from natural causes, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice, on Friday, November 5, 2004. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, November 8 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Bruce Zimmermann officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellsburg Reformed Cemetery in Wellsburg. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg with his family present to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to Harold's family.
Harold was born January 28, 1917, in Shiloh Township near Wellsburg, son of Dick and Malena ( Molendorp) Weichers. He attended country school in rural Wellsburg. On January 15, 1941 he was united in marriage to Lillie Eygabroad in Marshalltown. Harold was a WWII veteran serving with the U.S. Army Air Corp. He lived in the Wellsburg area his entire life and was self employed operating a trucking and corn shelling business. He was a horse enthusiast and enjoyed attending horse shows.
He is survived by sons, Gordon (Karen) Weichers of Steamboat Rock, Craig (Mary) Weichers of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Kent (Karen) Weichers of Grundy Center; daughters, Sally (Ron) Nevenhoven of Aplington, Sherri (Dick) Wessels of Fairfax, and Camelia Weichers of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Nettie Huisman of Ackley, Edna Kreb of Waterloo, and Mildred Weichers of Grundy Center; and by seventeen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, Lillie on May 3, 1998; his parents; sisters, Anna Rindles, Grace Freese, Rena Huisman, and Leone Hopkins; brothers, John, Conrad, Lester, and Dale Weichers; and grandchildren Denise and Leisha Aukes.
