Harold R. Voss, 84, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Friday, June 27, 2014, from injuries suffered in a farm accident. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Pastor Luther Thoresen officiating. Burial of cremains will follow immediately after the memorial service at Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Harold was born in Grundy County, Iowa, on December 21, 1929, the son of Rudy and Fannie (Itzen) Voss. He went to country school up through the eighth grade, and then attended Grundy Center High School graduating in 1948. After graduation he went to work doing his lifelong love of farming as a farm hand in the area. Shortly thereafter, Harold joined the reserves in 1951 and was called to duty serving his country in the Korean War. For his service to his country, he received the honors of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Harold married Mary Jo Mitchell on June 18, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. After the war he, worked for Reineke TV and Appliance for a couple of years before beginning his career as a farmer and settling into this life he so loved for next 50 years. Harold retired in 2012 from farming.
Harold was a longtime member of American Lutheran Church, Grundy Center, where he served in numerous roles including the Church Council. Harold and Mary Jo enjoyed wintering in Florida the past 20 years. He enjoyed gardening, farming and attending sporting events of his own children and grandchildren. Harold was a loving friend to all, kind hearted and generous man.
Above all, spending time with family was what Harold treasured most.
Harold is survived by his wife Mary Jo of Grundy Center; children, Jerry ( Kristy) Voss, Dave (Lory) Voss and Greg (Deb) Voss; 7 grandchildren: Ryan Voss, Erin (Mathieu) Galley, Megan (Alex) Lebeau, Bailey Voss, Brock Voss, Jacob Voss, Reid Voss; 2 great grandchildren, Dakota and Emma; brothers, Clarence Voss, Paul (Jeanette) Voss, Ron (Candi) Voss; sister, Ina(Joe)Ross. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Fannie Voss; siblings, Leona (Duane) Sparenborg, Bill Voss and Carl Voss.
