Harold Thoms

Harold William Thoms, 79, of Reinbeck, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 in Reinbeck while under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Eagle Center, Iowa with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck with a 5:30 pm vigil with rosary to follow. Interment will be at the Blessing Cemetery. A memorial has been established.

Harold the son of William and Clara (Ramundt) Thoms was born March 25, 1931, in Grundy County. Harold grew up in the Dinsdale and Buckingham area and attended and graduated from Dinsdale High School. On May 21, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army serving his country in Korea; he was honorably discharged on May 13, 1954. On June 3, 1953, Harold was united in marriage to Nelly M. Malkmus in Livermore, Iowa. To this union two children were adopted, Mark and Maria. He was a farmer who enjoyed fishing, playing cards, helping his son with scrap metal and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Harold was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Eagle Center, The American Legion Action Post #242 of Reinbeck and The V.F.W Post 1623 of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother- in ? law Arnold Willems.

He is survived by his wife, Nelly of Reinbeck; son, Mark W. Thoms of Reinbeck: daughter, Maria E. Doppler of Lowell, Indiana; three grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas and Elizabeth Doppler; Brothers, Raymond of Reinbeck, Harry of Traer, Charles of Waterloo and sister, Dorothy Willems of Tripoli..
