Harold Peter Mutch, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, May 5, 2006 in Grundy Center, Iowa. He attained the age of 94 years and 1 month. Memorials may be directed to the Grundy County Hospice or the Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Harold was born at home in Palermo Twp., Grundy Co., Iowa, the son of Will and Carrie Newton Mutch on April 4, 1912. He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1931. On February 27, 1937 Harold married Henrietta Petersen the daughter of Henry and Antje Dieken Petersen. To this union were born two sons, James and Kenneth.
Over the years Harold worked in various capacities. He worked for H.K. Wilson Greenhouse, George Smith Corner Drug. He helped build the Catholic Church, worked on the crew putting in the highway to Reinbeck, Iowa and worked in construction at the Iowa Ordinance Plant in Burlington, Iowa and Dixon, Illinois. He worked for John Deere Tractor Plant in Waterloo, the Hemp Mill and the Farmers Coop Feed & Mill. He also was in partnership with Fenton Lynn Trucking until he purchased the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in June of 1952. Harold retired from the hardware store in 1973. He collected antique tools, but this hobby soon outgrew his basement and he built the Mutch?s Museum in 1992. He enjoyed having people come and telling them about the collection and how each tool was used. Harold was a sixty year member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church.
Harold is survived by his wife Henrietta and his two sons, James and his wife Eileen Mutch and Kenneth and his wife Jane Mutch both of Grundy Center, Iowa, five grandchildren: Bill and wife Sheri (Simms), Brian and wife Leah (Smith), Brant and wife Alison (Jahn), Jenny and Cory and wife Brandi (Gifford), seven great grandchildren: Briana, Grant, Connor, Devin, Schuyler, Bryce, and Jillian. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Carrie Mutch, two grandsons: Courtland Lee and Jayson William, and a sister Donnabelle Hall.
