Harold Fistler

April 26, 1928 — November 16, 2005

Harold L. Fistler, 77, of Eldora, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, November 19, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Baillie officiating. Burial will follow at Steamboat Rock Cemetery, in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, where full military rites will be provided by the Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Visitation will be Friday, November 18, 2005, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, Iowa, where the family will be present the entire time to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established.



Harold was born April 26, 1928, in Ackley, Iowa, the son of Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Shadbolt) Fistler. Harold received his education in Ackley and graduated from Ackley High School. After high school, Harold enlisted in the United States Marine Air Corp, and served his country as a metal smith after WWII. On November 3, 1950, Harold was united in marriage to Cecelia M. Harms at the Evangelical United Brethren Church Parsonage in Ackley, Iowa. In 1951, they moved to Eldora and made it their home. Harold began work as a carpenter for several years with Harry Folkerts. He then became employed with Lennox in Des Moines, working there for twenty years. Harold then worked for United Suppliers until he retired in 1993. Harold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock where he had served as a Trustee, and an Elder, and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and the Iowa Conservation Club (The Boat Club). Harold loved to garden and do woodworking and he loved to watch football.



He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years Cecelia Fistler of Eldora; one son Brian Fistler and his wife Kim of Eldora; one daughter Diane Zimmerman and her husband Craig of Mankato, Minnesota; one granddaughter Samantha Fistler; one brother Raymond Fistler of Ackley; two sisters Dorothy Belken and her husband Maurie of Iowa Falls; Betty Boekhoff of Wellsburg; four sisters-in-law Betty Fistler of Monitcello; Doris Fistler of Grundy Center; Nettie Daniels and her husband Raymond of Ackley; Gladys Geiken and her husband Don of Des Moines; two brothers-in-law Ralph Harms and his wife Edith of Ackley; and John Harms and his wife Mary of Eldora; and numerous nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Velma Fistler; and two brothers Bernard Fistler and Donald Fistler.
