Gwenlyn L. Pagel of Mesa, Arizona, formally of Marshalltown, died May 14, 2007 at Legacy Village at East Mesa.
Internment will be at the Eldora Cemetery. A family gathering is planned for the 8th of June. Memorials may be directed to Quakerdale.
Born Gwenlyn Doud in Eldora, Iowa on July 13, 1919 she was the daughter of Floyd and Fleda (Baker) Doud. She graduated from Eldora High School and then graduated from nursing school in 1941 from Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown. During WWII she was the plant nurse at Swift's in Marshalltown.
She was united in marriage to Bert W. Pagel in Macon, Missouri on October 27, 1942. Returning to Eldora after the war they then made their home in Melbourne from 1948 to 1961. They lived in Marshalltown from 1961 to 1979, where she was with the Visiting Nurses Association from 1966 to 1979. In 1979 they retired to Mesa, Arizona.
She is survived by her children Steven (Sida) of Mesa, David (Beverly) of Des Moines, and Janis of Mesa. Also her grandchildren, Scot currently serving in Iraq, Stanley of Woodbridge, Virginia, Jennifer of Ankeny, and Kate (Joseph) Jeffryes of West Des Moines.
In death she rejoins her parents, husband and brothers Carrol and Joseph.
