Grace G. Meents, 94, of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday July 21, 2017 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, with Pastor Al Polito officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Grace G. Meents was born the daughter of Henry C. and Anna (Karsjens Wilson) Brower on January 16, 1923 in Grundy County, near Wellsburg, Iowa. She attended school through the sixth grade and then stayed home to help take care of her family. Later she worked as a house keeper for different families. On February 23, 1943, Grace was united in marriage with John Meents. Grace and her husband were farmers in Grundy County for four decades.
Grace was an active member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon for a number of terms. She was also a member of Martha Circle and the Women’s Association. Grace always had a positive attitude and her cup was always one-half full. She enjoyed farming, gardening, quilting, sewing, caring for her house plants, cooking, and playing cards.
She is survived by her son, John A. Meents of Hondo, Texas; one sister, Anna Mae Brower of Grundy Center, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; sisters, Henrietta Smeins and Caroline Fuls; step-sister, Marie Diehl; brother, John K. Brower; step-brother, Wilbert Wilson; sisters-in-law, Ivadean Dieken and Claradean Claassen; brothers-in-law, George Smeins, Gene Fuls, Paul and Alvin Meents, Ed Dieken and John Claassen.
