Grace Heronimus

May 27, 1918 — September 18, 2013

Grace Heronimus, 95, of Grundy Center, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, IA. Burial of cremains will follow immediately after the memorial service at Holland Cemetery, Holland, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Grace was born May 27, 1918, in Grundy County, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Lana (Olthoff) Schmidt. She grew up in Grundy County and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1937. She married George Heronimus on June12, 1942, at Fort Leonard, MO. After their marriage Grace traveled with George as he served his country in many different locations. They returned to Grundy County around 1950. Grace went to work for Grundy County as a deputy auditor. She was appointed County Auditor in 1961and worked as Auditor till she retired in 1981. She enjoyed attending George's Army reunions and working in her garden. Most of all she enjoyed time with her family and friends.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995.
She is survived by son, David (Nancy) Heronimus of Spirit Lake, IA; grandchildren, Sara Hook (Brandon Lafrenz) , Katy (Brady) Bown, Mike Heronimus, Todd Heronimus; great grandchildren, Trenten Hook, Colton Heronimus, Ava Bown, Avery and Taylor Lafrenz.
