Glenn Earl Willig, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Tuesday, February, 1, 2005, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 4, 2005 at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Pastor David Turner will officiate. Burial will be at the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday February 3, 2005 from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Engelkes - Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital or the American Lutheran Church.
Glenn Earl Willig was born June 2, 1918 in Hubbard, Iowa the son of Carl and Emma (Rutzen) Willig. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Hubbard. Glenn married Meredith Ann Baker on March 30, 1947 in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Glenn owned and operated Willig's Paint, Wallpaper and Appliance Store in Grundy Center before taking a custodian's position with the school district for 23 years. He also worked 3 years for the Grundy County Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1983. Glenn served as a volunteer fireman for 21 years.
Glenn was active with the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church, the Lion's Club, AmVets, VFW and a charter member of the Manly's Coffee Club.
He is survived by 3 daughters: Diane Hart of Marshalltown, Denise Willig and Donna Willig both of Waterloo; 2 grandsons: Doug (Shaness) Hart of Marshalltown, and Dan (Whitney) Hart of Laurel; 3 great grandchildren: Jaiden, Peyton, and Olivia; 2 sisters: Ruth (Jack) Piper of Eldora, and Betty Julian of Eugene, Oregon, 4 brothers: Wesley Willig of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Dale (Alvina) Willig of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, Lloyd (Elsie) Willig of Forest City, Iowa, and Mayo (Marge) Willig of Stockton, Illinois; a sister-in-law: Maxine Holmes of Eldora, and many nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter: Deborah, sister: Mildred Travis and brothers: Faye Willig and Eugene Willig.
