Glenda Cordes

Glenda Cordes, 82, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Grundy Care Center.

Funeral services for Glenda will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located in Eldora, IA with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, everyone is required to practice social distancing while attending the service. There will be no visitation prior to Glenda’s funeral service.  Immediately following the funeral, Glenda will be laid to rest at the Shilo Cemetery in Wellsburg, Iowa.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Glenda’s name to her family, which will later be designated elsewhere.  For further information or to leave a condolence please visit www.abelsfuneralhomes.com.  Engelkes Abels Funeral Home is caring for Glenda and her family.

Glenda Krull was born on October 31, 1938 in rural Grundy county, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lena (Williams) Krull.  She was raised and educated in the Grundy County school district where she graduated from Wellsburg High School with the class of 1956. Only one year after graduating high school, Glenda was united in marriage to Kenneth Cordes on September 20, 1957 in Parkersburg, Iowa.  From this union four children were born: Randy, Jodie, Robert and Andy

Glenda was a hardworking woman dedicating her life to her family.  She raised her family proudly and could be found working at the family hardware store, Cordes Hardware that was in Wellsburg on Main Street.  Glenda was a proud member of St. John’s Church in Wellsburg, Ladies aid at church and the Wellsburg Community Club.  She also loved to volunteer each year at the Elections polls.  Glenda had many passions in life such as her Avid love for the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing Bridge, golfing, hosting and entertaining company, meeting new people, and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jodie (Steve) Gehrke, Robert ( Kathy) Cordes and Andy (Tera Clement) Cordes; daughter-in-law: Nancy Cordes; one sister: Shirley VanDeest; grandchildren: Casey (Heidi) Cordes, Garth (Jen)  Spieker, Dan (Marcy) Spieker, Anne (Andy) Kay, Ashley (Kaci) Mohannah, Morgan (Harris) Henningson, Hannah Clement and Hunter Clement; great-grandchildren: Cade Spieker, Emma Spieker, Jack Spieker, Tommy Spieker, Emily Epieker, Kyra Cordes, Kaylene Cordes, Caliber Coffman, Kenny Kay and Mattie Kay.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Ken Cordes; parents: John and Lena Krull and one son: Randy Cordes.
