Glen J. Patterson, 66, of Grundy Center, Iowa, formerly of Holland Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in rural Holland, Iowa. Burial will follow immediately after the funeral service at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Grundy Center American Legion Post # 349 and AMVETS 17. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care.
Glen was born February 6, 1945 in Grundy County, Iowa. He was the son of Clive and Anna (Meester) Patterson. Glen grew up on the family farm in rural Holland. He received his primary education in Holland and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1963. Glen served his country overseas in the United States Army from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1967.
Glen returned home and continued to work the family farm alongside his father. He took over the farm after his father passed away in 1989. Glen was still actively farming until shortly before his death.
Glen was a lifelong, active member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church. He sang in both the church choir and the community's German choir.
Glen is survived by his many cousins and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara.
