Gladys Emalina Meinert, 90, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice in Grundy Center, Iowa.
Gladys was born October 4, 1918 on a farm near Hubbard, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick W. and Anna Wilamina Roll Herzog. She attended school in the Hubbard school district.
On November 17, 1945 she married Peter Theodore (Ted) Meinert who died January 13, 2004. The couple farmed southeast of Grundy Center. She worked for the Grundy Center Community Schools for several years as a cook. Gladys loved to bake bread, rolls and cakes, which family and friends enjoyed. She always has a smile for you.
Gladys was a member of the Sunset Rebekah Lodge #353, the American Legion Auxiliary and an active Farm Bureau member. She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Bethany Presbyterian Women?s Association and Naomi Circle.
Survivors include her a son: Keith Meinert of Grundy Center, Iowa; two daughters: Diane Husak of Gladbrook, Iowa, and Patricia Meinert of Forest City, Iowa; two grandsons: Lance and Timothy Husak; two brothers: Irvan Herzog of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Wayne Herzog and his wife Darlene of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a sister-in-law: Eileen Herzog of Independence, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Eleanor Russell; four brothers: Paul, Elmer, Herbert and Frederick Herzog.
