Gladys L. Granzow, 100, of Eldora, Iowa died Monday, September 14, 2015 at Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eldora, while under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Gladys Louise (Ruhnke) Granzow was born July 15, 1915 at Pleasant Township in Hardin County, to Paul and Lillie (Pagel) Ruhnke. She was baptized in August of 1915 and confirmed in March of 1929 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. This was the first confirmation class in the new church. She was an active member of St. Paul her entire life, participating in Walther League, Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School for many years. On February 22, 1935 she married George Granzow. They lived in the house George was born in. In 1948, they built a brick house on the farm where their son Stanley now lives. They moved to the city of Eldora in 1965, where they built their house on 17th Avenue in which they lived in until both of their deaths. Gladys was an avid gardener, and was famous for her sugar cookies, chocolate cake and sweet pickles. She also quilted, completing over 100 quilts a year for many years, with nearly all going to mission fields in the states and around the world.
Gladys was the mother of Jane, Glen (Karen), Marvin (Sherry), Sarah (Ron) Bardal and Stanley (Neva). She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents; two sisters; three brothers; one granddaughter, one grandson and one great granddaughter.
She is survived by her children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
