Gladys J. Bowers, 97, of Dike, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September, 11, 2018 at the Dike United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Memorials may be directed to the Dike United Methodist Church.
Gladys was born on March 5, 1921 in rural Wellsburg, Iowa to her parents Joe and Pearl (Ruter) Eilers. Gladys attended Shiloh Country School in Wellsburg. Gladys was united in marriage to Howard Bowers on August 8, 1949 in Kansas City, MO; together they raised their children Keith, Kent & Kay. Gladys was a homemaker and was very helpful to her husband Howard on the farm.
Gladys was a faithful member of the Dike United Methodist Church. There she served the church in a variety of capacities. Gladys was a long-time member of the Rebekahs, Homemakers, and many card clubs. She enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables and loved crafts and sewing. Gladys was a very social person, she enjoyed sharing coffee and tea with her friends and especially loved to spend time with her brothers and sisters. Her true joy in life came from being with her children, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren.
Gladys is survived by her son Keith Alberts; sisters Genevieve Venenga, Adele Pruin, Joyce (Norman) VanDeest; brothers Wayne (Judy) Eilers, Kenny (Lynda) Eilers; granddaughters Angie (Tony) Norton, Sara (Rob) Heerkes, Maureen (Justin) Stockdale; great-grandchildren Katelyn, Jenna, Jacob, Madelyn, Izzy, Addy, Noah, & Isaac; son-in-law Glen Nielsen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard Bowers; son Kent Alberts; daughter Kay Nielsen; sister June Rhoades and brother Marlyn Eilers.
