Gertrude M. "Trudy" Grimes, 89, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away of natural causes, on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Arlington Place Assisted Living in Grundy Center, while under the care of Iowa Hospice. Visitation will be held at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be held privately at Geneseo Cemetery in Buckingham, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Hospice.
Trudy was born on February 19, 1922 in rural Black Hawk County, the daughter of John and Beatrice Kerr. She was united in marriage to Bob Grimes in 1947 at the Geneseo United Methodist Church in rural Buckingham, IA. They made their home in Montezuma, IA and welcomed two children into their family.
Trudy loved to hunt, fish and spend time with her friends and family. She will be missed and long remembered.
She is survived by her children Jim (Marilyn) Grimes of San Diego, CA and Mary (Rex) Kinkade of Des Moines, IA; grandsons Michael and Jason Grimes; granddaughters Hillary Miner and Lindsay Warden; great-grandchildren Sulina Grimes and Brittany Miner; sisters Harriet Garlock of Waterloo, IA and Marge Ibbotson of Tingley, IA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents and sisters Mary Glessner of Waterloo, IA and Bea Fosse of Nashua, IA.
