Gerald Ernest Ehrig died Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Reinbeck under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A visitation will be held from 9:30am to 11:00am on Tuesday December 17, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am.
He was born September 23, 1932, in rural Tama County, son of Ernest and Emma (Raum) Ehrig. Jerry graduated from Reinbeck High School and attended the University of Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955. After returning home, he married Margaret Strohbehn and began his lifelong career of farming and caring for his livestock.
Jerry was an active member of churches where he lived, serving in many capacities at each one. He was a proud member of the Reinbeck American Legion Post #242. Jerry served on the GNB Bank Board for 27 years and volunteered in many community organizations.
Survivors include: his wife of 69 years, his sons; Joel (Barbara) of Grundy Center, Dave of Houston, TX; four grandchildren Greg, Thomas, Autumn (Isaac Beck-Brunk), Amber (Alex Boots), and five great granddaughters.
Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Donald Ehrig, and Paul Ehrig; two sisters Dorothy Gunovich and Neva Petersen; and his stepfather, Peter Byrnes.
Memorials may be directed to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Cedar Valley Hospice, and the Reinbeck First Presbyterian church.
Jerry will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
