Genofega Szegda

November 21, 1925 — January 1, 2016

Genofega Eva Szegda, 90, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away, Friday, January 1, 2016, at Allen Memorial Hospital, in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 11:00 am, at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, with Pastor Nathan Barkley officiating. Family will receive friends half hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Washington Township Cemetery, in Morrison, Iowa.


Eva was born November 21, 1925, in Hamburg, Germany. On May 19, 1948 she was united in marriage to Michal Szegda in Hamburg, Germany. In 1951 Eva and Michal immigrated to the United States aboard the General Taylor ship. She worked as a nurse's aide and homemaker.


Eva gave her life to Christ in 1973, and was a member of the Frist Baptist church in Grundy Center. Eva's faith was evident in her daily life. "Just put it in the Lords hands," were words she lived by and shared. Eva was a prayer warrior for those in need.


In her younger days Eva and Michal enjoyed dancing. She was also a member of the Grundy Center Gardening Club.


Eva was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.


Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michal, her children; Danny (Laurie) Szegda of Omaha, Nebraska, Julie (John) Abkes of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mike Szegda, Jr., of Davenport, Iowa, eight grandchildren; Derrick (Mary) Szegda, Austin (Jennie) Szegda, Amber Wires, Danielle (Zach) Williams, Tyler Szegda, Trevor (Kelsey) Szegda, Jennifer (Nathan) McIvor, and Luke (Kjirsten) Abkes, five great grandchildren; Truth Williams, Gemma Williams, Samone Wires, Chloe Szegda, and Emma Szegda, and one brother; Erwin of Germany.
