Gaylord “Gig” Billerbeck, 88, of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a masonic service conducted by the Reinbeck Coin Lodge 394, at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Inurnment will be held at a later date privately by the family. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Gig was born on November 16, 1935, in rural Gladbrook, Iowa, to his parents Alfred and Norma (Meggers) Billerbeck. He was raised on the family farm north of Reinbeck and graduated from Reinbeck High School in the class of 1954.
Gig was a life-long farmer. He was married to JoAnn DauSchmidt and they welcomed four children into their family. The couple later divorced. He was then united in marriage to Gladyce Roehr on June 7, 1974. They enjoyed 33 happy years together until Gladyce’s passing in January of 2008.
Gig was a life-long member of the Reinbeck Union Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a 4-H Leader, Fair Board member, Township Trustee-President, Fireman’s Board President in Reinbeck, 3 Degree Mason and Master of the Coin Lodge 394 in Reinbeck, President of the Mobile Nobles, and Director of Jesters. Gig also enjoyed golfing. He lived his life with “gusto” and was always on the go.
Gig is survived by his children Mike Billerbeck of Portland, Oregon; Jacque Billerbeck of Waterloo, Iowa, and Pam (Brad) Konicek of Toledo, Iowa; step-children Sherrie (Tom) Moore of Waterloo, Iowa, Jack Roehr of Waterloo, Iowa, and Shellie (Sam) Sablan of Amana, Iowa; grandchildren Mindie Willer, Renae Willer, Amanda (Joey) Smith, Hannah (Jason) Wawczak, Haylee Konicek, Britnee (Mark) Oetker; great-grandchildren McKenzie, Mason, Taylor, Hayden, Hudson, Henley, Hazy, Lexie, Lillie, Kinlie, Nolan, Macie, Xander, Courtney, and Kayla; great-great-grandchildren Waylon, Owen, and Ryleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gladyce Billerbeck; son Danny Billerbeck; and brother Arlen Billerbeck.
