Gayland D. "Butch" Meester, 66, of Waterloo, formerly of rural Dike, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 at 10:30 am at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, just west of Fern, IA. Burial will follow funeral services at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 29th from 5 to 8 pm at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Gayland was born on May 17, 1944 in rural Dike, Iowa, the son of Henry and Tena (DeVries) Meester. He grew up in rural Dike, later moving to Waterloo where he lived at the Fairway Group Home in Waterloo for almost 20 years. He had attended school at River Hills in Cedar Falls, volunteered at Goodwill Industries and also was involved in Choice Daycare Facilities. Gayland was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church.
He is survived by his sister Rosie (Marv) Aalderks, of Parkersburg and brothers Al (Shirley) Meester of Dike and Marv (Barb) Meester of Dike; 7 nephews and 3 nieces. Gayland was preceded in death by his parents; a great-niece Lindsay Krusemark.
