Francis Allyn

Francis R. “Frank” Allyn, 87, of Eldora, passed away on Sunday, April 25 th , 2010 at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28 th at 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church in Eldora with Pastors John Scheel and Jason Stark officiating. Visitation will be held one prior to services at the church. Interment will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery in Masonville , Iowa .





Francis “Frank” Allyn was born on November 7, 1922 at his farm home in Delaware County, near Manchester, Iowa . Frank was the son of Harte and Winona (Lane) Allyn. He attended his first eight years in a country school. He then rode his bike 6 miles everyday to attend high school in Manchester .





On June 1 st , 1945, he was united in marriage to Ruth (Yantis) Allyn at the Baptist Church in Manchester . He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher there for many years.





Frank lived on the farm until his retirement in 1992, when he and his wife Ruth moved to Eldora, Iowa . During his younger years, he was active as a 4H leader. Around 1976 he began working with the Gideons handing out New Testaments to the 6 th grade and college students. His favorite hobby after retirement was playing golf.





Frank is survived by his wife Ruth; two daughters Anita (Jerry) Wahlstrom of Eldora and Karen Manson of Coon Rapids , MN . He has four grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles and sister Lois Baskerville Hill.
