Frances Marjorie "Marge" Calton, 88, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, while under the Care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Burial will be held privately by the family. Marge was born on November 11, 1927 in West Plains, Missouri. She was the daughter of Francis and Violet Auffert. She attended grade school at Bradford Community and graduated high school in Grundy Center.
She was united in marriage to Lloyd Wesley Calton in Grundy Center on September 1, 1945. She finished her last year of high school while her husband served in the Navy. She worked at the Grundy Café, J.C. Penney and the corner drugstore. Lloyd and Marge later moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where Lloyd attended school and then returned to Drake University. While in Des Moines, Marge worked at Barbara's Bake Shop. She moved several places while her husband worked for Osco Drug. Upon her return to Grundy Center in 1968, she worked at As You Like It, DW Calton Mercantile and the Calton Variety & Pharmacy. Marge retired in 2009.
Marge was active in Federated Women's Club for 40 years and also the Business Women's Club. She attended Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed making quilts and being with her family. The highlights of her days were spending time with her great-grandchildren. "She has left a legacy of what family, loving God and one another is all about."
She is survived by her two children, David (Lynne) Calton of Waterloo, Iowa and Betty (Jim) Heeren of Grundy Center, Iowa; her 5 grandchildren, Wes (Brandee) Calton of Grand Junction, CO, Christopher Calton of Denver, CO, Carolyn (Jim) Walters of Colorado Springs, CO, John (Carrie) Heeren of Grundy Center, IA and Todd (Melissa) Heeren of Independence, IA; her 8 great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Zachery, Ryleigh Walters, Caysee Calton, Kenidee Calton, Morgan Marx, Ava Heeren, Mackenzie Heeren and Addilynn Heeren; her sister-in-law Oleta Auffert of West Plains, MO; her brother-in-law Dr. Melvin L. Calton of St. Louis, MO and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd; her son Dr. Steven Calton; a brother Everett Auffert, sisters Freda Mustion and Irene Marler; a brother-in-law and his wife Doyle and Marge Calton; sister-in-law Virginia Calton and a sister-in-law and her husband Louise and Willis Grimmius.
