Frances M. Barker, 98, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Friday, February 2, 2007, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, with Pastor Diane Martin officiating. An Eastern Star Service will be given on Tuesday morning during the funeral service, at the funeral home, provided by the Coinette Chapter #273 of Reinbeck. A private family burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, February 5, 2007, from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at French Hand Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established.

Frances was born April 14, 1908, in Reinbeck, Iowa, the daughter of Charles E. and C. Maye (Hickson) Crees. Frances received her education in Reinbeck, graduating with the class of 1925. After high school, Frances attended Iowa State Normal College in Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught country school near Wellsburg. On October 15, 1930, Frances was united in marriage to Lyman Wilson Barker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed most of their married life on the family farm in northern Tama County, retiring in 1970. Frances' husband Lyman died on April 9, 1995. Frances was a member of the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck. She was also a fifty-plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Coinette Chapter #273 in Reinbeck. Frances loved to fish and play cards. She also loved to knit and to read.

She is survived by two daughters Gloria Breakenridge and her husband Warren of Reinbeck, Iowa; Audrey DeRodeff and her husband Chris of Bethel Island, California; one son W. Gene Barker and his wife Dianne of Reinbeck, Iowa; nine grandchildren-Donna Evenson and her husband Randy; Peggy Finzen and her husband Terry; Penny Gordon and her husband David; Andrea Troost and her husband Ken; Angela Wipfli and her husband Tom; Jon Heine and his wife Jill; William Barker and his wife Christine; Stephanie Holman and her husband Troy; Ernie Mitchell; eight step-grandchildren- Judy Risk; Scott Breakenridge and his wife Judy; Jennifer Breakenridge; Susan O'Donnell and her husband John; Steven DeRodeff and his wife Sandra; Carol Smith and her husband Ken; Diana DeRodeff; Christine Stoker and her husband Mike; many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law Thelma Crees of Waterloo, Iowa; and a special friend Irene Staker of Reinbeck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lyman W. Barker; one granddaughter Rebecca Mitchell; one brother Charles E. "Red" Crees; and one sister Cordella Hagan.
