Florence Ruth

Florence Irene Ruth, 87, of Grundy Center, passed away on April 23, 2019, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. A service will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 11 AM at Abels Funeral And Cremation Service, Engelkes-Chapel, in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held beforehand from 9-11 AM. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to be donated to a cause of their choosing at a later date. Florence Irene Ruth was born on April 14, 1932, on the farm in Butler County to her parents Herman Sr. and Flossie (Arends) Frey. She attended and graduated from New Hartford High School. She was united in marriage to Don Ruth on December 28, 1950, and they had four children Sharon, Ron, Jeff, and Michael. For many years, Florence helped Don in the family’s TV business, moving from Parkersburg, Sumner, Grundy Center, and lastly, Marshalltown. Florence and Don separated in 1982 and she moved back to Grundy Center. She worked at the Kum & Go before retiring.

Florence loved and cherished the time that she could spend with her family. She enjoyed their camping and fishing trips in Minnesota, spending time at Gull Lake. Florence also liked to try her hand at painting.

Florence is survived by her children: Sharon (Ron) Shoup of Grundy Center, Ron (Rose) Ruth of Beaman, Jeff (Teri) Ruth of Eagle Mountain, Utah; grandchildren Amy Shoup, Krystal (Paul) Kubichek, Rusty Ruth, Brad (Allison) Ruth, Adam Ruth, and Michelle Ruth; 8 great-grandchildren; sister Bertha Sents. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael who passed in 1982, grandson Scott Shoup who passed in 1979, and her siblings.
