Faithe L. Walters, 86, of Eldora, Iowa, died on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow funeral services at the Eldora City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Faithe was born on November 3, 1927 in rural Louisa County, Iowa, to Thomas Frederick and Elva (Foster) Bonnichsen. She grew up in rural Columbus Junction and graduated from Grandview High School in 1945. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College and AIB, and worked in Des Moines at Farm Bureau. During a trip with Farm Bureau, Faithe met Robert (Bob) Walters. Faithe was united in marriage to Bob Walters on April 24, 1949 in Des Moines, IA. The couple welcomed 5 children into their family. Faithe worked as a secretary at the State Training School for boys for 30+ years.
During her years in Eldora, Faithe was a member of the St Paul Lutheran Church, the Ruth and Naomi Circle, and a member of the Friends of Pine Lake. She was an avid walker, liked sewing and doing crafts, and was well known for her Black Walnut Chiffon cakes that she would make for family and friends. Faithe loved to write poetry and would create verses for special occasions in her or her friends' lives. In her later years she enjoyed completing jigsaw and word puzzles.
Faithe is survived by her children Gregg (Patsy) of Fort Collins, CO, Angie (Brad) Stoner of San Diego CA, Gordon (Susan) of Irvine CA, Anita (Doug) Coffman of Iowa Falls and Chuck (Julie) of Eldora; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers Raymond Bonnichsen of Columbus Junction, IA and Royce (Charlotte) Bonnichsen of Columbus Junction, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, and sisters Carol Schafer, Frances McKean, and Joanne Garlock.
