Evelyn P. Runge, 90 of Nevada, IA formerly of Grundy Center died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Story County Medical Senior Care, in Nevada, Iowa. Memorial services will be held on Thursday July 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, IA with visitation held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the memorial service at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorial may be directed to the family.
Evelyn Pauline was born in Fairmont, MN. on September 29, 1923, the daughter of Ewald and Millie (Fritz) Tietje. On May 19, 1945 Evelyn was united in marriage to Ronald Runge in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union, 6 children were born. Evelyn retired from Norwesco in Grundy Center in 1988. She continued to reside in Grundy Center until 2012 when she moved to Nevada.
Evelyn's main source of happiness and pride was her family. Family gatherings and holidays brought her great joy .She could share many good stories about babysitting her grandchildren. Over the years, she and Ronald earned the title of "adopted parents" to many of their children's friends who found their way into their welcoming home.
Evelyn was a longtime member of American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center and attended Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
Those left to cherish her memory are, Mary Ann (James) McIntire of Nevada, IA, Steve (Darla) Runge of Sherburn, MN, Susan Banks of Nevada, and Randy (Lori) Runge of Grundy Center; 15 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; four brothers, Vernon Tietje of Fairmont, MN, Marlin Tietje of Ellensburg, WA, Eldon Tietje of Auburn, WA and Lowell Tietje of Council, ID; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Ron in 2002, sons, Dennis in 2006, Gary in 2012 and a granddaughter, Kristi Ann Banks.
