Eva Greany

Eva Greany, 89, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Monday, November 20, 2006, under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center, Iowa.

One of ten children, (Mary) Eva was born November 17, 1917 to Edwin and Bertha (Lohberger) Aldrich at the family farm near Garwin, Iowa. She graduated from Garwin High School and received her teaching credentials from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught in one room school in rural Tama County and also at Garwin High School. It was while teaching that she met fellow teacher and principal Duane Greany.

Eva and (Edmund) Duane Greany were married at Garwin on June 10, 1942. They moved to Grundy Center in 1945 and remained there the rest of their lives. Eva was a stay-at-home Mom with their three children. She took great pride in her home and family and was well known for her wonderful cooking and talent in sewing. She was always involved in her community and her church - giving freely of her time and talents.

In later years, she was a partner and co-worker with Duane in operating Greany Pontiac - Buick. After selling that dealership, she became the first secretary for the newly established Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce - a part time position that allowed her and Duane to travel extensively. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1992. Duane passes away April 8, 1997.

Eva is preceded in death by her parents, husband: Duane; sister: Anita and brother in law: Clifford Hines; sister: Lillian and brother in law: Dale Curphy; sister: Viola and brother in law: Marvin Murty; brother: Warren and sister in law: Dorothy Aldrich; brother: Lawrence: and sister in law: Marjorie Aldrich; and brother in law: Bernard Hatton.

She is survived by a daughter: Joyce Wardell and Bruce Theesfeld of Grundy Center; 2 sons: Jerry (Connie) Greany of Hortonville, Wisconsin, and Bob (January) Greany of Grundy Center, Iowa.

There are eight grandchildren Shawn (Shannon) Wardell of Waterloo, Wisconsin; Jodi (Paul) Goodnow of Wyoming, Minnesota; Vawn Greany and Curtis Lee of Sammamish, Washington; Jessica (Scott) Studer of Wathena Kansas; Jennifer (john) Gunter of Suwanee, Georgia; Monica (Jay) Lynch of Grundy Center, Iowa; Mindy Greany and Gary Kiewiet of Grundy Center, Iowa; and Marissa Greany and Brad Johnson of Waterloo, Iowa. Also ten great grandchildren: Amber & Kyle Wardell, Emily and Steven Goodnow, Collin Studer, Braye and Mitchell Gunter, Brenton Kiewiet and Eli and Hannah Lane.

Eva is also survived by a brother: Berdell and sister in law: Frances Aldrich of Garwin, Iowa; sister: Mildred and brother in law: Dale Mathern of Mayer, Arizona; sister: Mary Alice Hatton of Waterloo, Iowa; and sister: Brenice and brother in law: Virgil Abels of Grundy Center, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
