Eunice Bakker

Eunice E. Bakker, 73, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at her home. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 22, 2008, at First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg, Iowa, with Pastor Tom Vos officiating. Burial will follow at First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Wellsburg. Visitation will be Friday, March 21, 2008, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with the family present to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established.

Eunice Elizabeth (Aukes) Bakker was born May 30, 1934, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Siemen D. and Lillian (Arends) Aukes. She received her education in Wellsburg, graduating from Wellsburg High School in 1952. After high school, Eunice began work at Peoples Savings Bank in Wellsburg, working there for ten years. On May 2, 1963, Eunice was united in marriage to Willis Bakker at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church rural Wellsburg. After their marriage, they moved to their farm in rural Steamboat Rock. Eunice began work at Lindaman's Grocery Store in Wellsburg, working there for many years. She took several years off to raise and care for her family, and then went back to work at Mike's Grocery Store in Wellsburg, retiring in 2002.

Eunice was an active member of First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg, where she had taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on the floral committee. Eunice enjoyed being a part of the Fishing Gang and all of the fun and fellowship they shared. She loved to garden and was an excellent cook. Eunice loved spending time with her family, especially the time she was able to share with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Willis Bakker of Wellsburg, Iowa; three sons, Ryan Bakker and his wife Lisa of Wellsburg, Iowa; Bruce Bakker of Wellsburg, Iowa; Kendall Bakker of Waterloo, Iowa; three grandchildren, Trevor, Haley, and Morgan Bakker of Wellsburg; and one sister-in-law, Annette Eekhoff of Kanawha, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Bakker in infancy; one brother, Stanley Aukes in infancy; and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Haupt and Lillian Haupt.
