Etta Schmitt

March 29, 1922 — May 16, 2017

Etta Schmitt, of Dike Iowa, passed away on May 16th, 2017 of natural causes. A visitation will be held at the Ables Funeral Home in Dike, Iowa, on Friday, May 19th, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20th at the Reformed Church of Stout at 1:30 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service. A committal service will be held following at the Stout cemetery with a luncheon to follow. Engelkes Abels Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Etta was born on March 29th, 1922 in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy County, Iowa to her parents John G. and Antje Peters Meester. Etta received her education at country school in Pleasant Valley township in Grundy County. Etta worked for a time as a store clerk at Sentman's Store in Wellsburg. On March 29th, 1946, Etta was united in marriage to Samuel I. Schmitt at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church in Holland, Iowa. Etta spent many years beside Samuel working on their family farm. Etta loved many things, but nothing more than her family and grandchildren. Some of Etta's hobbies included gardening, canning, making homemade crafts, and sewing.
Etta is survived by her daughter Darlys (Larry) Wiese of Dike; grandchildren Tonia Sheesley of Blue Springs, Missouri, Michelle (Bruce) Watson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jonathan Wiese of Puyallup, Washington; great grandchildren Camryn and Cayden Ward, and Katie and Caleb Sheesley; and sister-in-law Johanna Schmitt. Etta is preceded in death by her husband Samuel I. Schmitt; her parents John G. and Antje Meester; sister Trena VanHauen; and brothers John J. Meester, Henry F. Meester, and Alfred Meester.
