Etta Moats, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday February 19, 2014, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 24, 2014, at American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Luther Thoresen officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Eldora. Visitation will be Monday, February 24, 2014, at American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be made to American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center.
Etta was born in Brownsdale, MN on May 28, 1927, the daughter of John and Florence (Lubbert) Bottema. She graduated from Whitten High School in 1945. On December 24, 1946 Etta was united in marriage to Millard Moats. Together they operated a corn shelling and trucking business for many years. She lived with diabetes since age 20 but remained very active. In 1982 they moved to Grundy Center and retired. She enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and playing cards.
Etta was a longtime member of American Lutheran Church.
She is survived by sisters, Dorothy Davison of Eldora, Esther Ankrum of Marshalltown, Delores Buzzell of Ogden and Varina (Ron) Eason of Iowa Falls; brothers, John Bottema , Lawrence Bottema of Eldora and Robert (Linda) Bottema of LeGrand; step-children Barbara (Mick) Hardwick of Arkansas and Gene (Shirley) Moats of Iowa Falls and many nieces, nephews and step- grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband the love of her life in 2004, her parents, brother Jacob, sister, Mildred Neuendorf; four brother-in-laws, Ervin Neuendorf, Darwin Buzzell, Darrel Ankrum and Clyde Davison and two sister-in-laws Betty Bottema and Bette Bottema.
