Ethel Schoolman

September 30, 1924 — December 22, 2017

Ethel L. Schoolman, 93, passed away peacefully on December 22nd, 2017, at her home in Holland, IA, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice and her loving family. A memorial service will be held on December 28th, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Wellsburg Reformed Church, 617 E. 4th Street, Wellsburg, IA, with visitation held one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. A private family inurnment will take place at the Holland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ethel was born on September 30, 1924, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred F. and Anna (Meyer) Getting. She attended country school and later graduated from Grundy Center High School, class of 1942. Ethel was united in marriage to Edward G. Schoolman on August 4, 1947 at the Christian Reformed Church in Holland, IA.  To this union was born one son. Ethel taught country school for many years at Colfax Township #9 and worked for Farmers Savings Bank for a number of years. Ethel was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, Wellsburg, IA.

Ethel is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Edward; one son Jerry Schoolman and his wife Lori of Holland, IA; grandson Todd Schoolman and his wife Allison of Wellsburg, IA and granddaughter Keri Schoolman of Holland, IA; two great-grandchildren Dawson and Quinn Schoolman of Wellsburg, IA.; brother Virgil Getting; brother-in-law Jim Bienfang; several nieces and nephews.

She joins her heavenly family which includes her parents; brothers Clarence Getting and Harvey Getting; sisters-in-law Lamka Getting, Gertie Getting, IvaDell Getting and Anna Mae Bienfang; many longtime friends.
