Esther was born on July 15, 1921 in rural Grundy County, Holland, IA. She received her education from Beaver Township #5 near her home. Her first job, she helped a family with odd jobs, where she earned $1.50 a week.
While she waited for her fiancé, James, to return from the War, she worked at Hensen Manufacturing. On January 28, 1947 she was united in marriage to James Ralph Meyer at the Peters farm near Holland, IA. In 1948, they moved and worked hand-in-hand on the farm together near Grundy Center, IA, where it continues to be farmed. She lived on the farm until she was 95 years old. She always said that she kept young by mowing the 3 acres by herself and keeping her house tidy. "You have to move to stay young, otherwise you will get stiff."
Esther's favorite thing in life was being a grandma and a great-grandma. She found tremendous pride and joy in watching her grandson race cars, visiting her granddaughter in Colorado, going to her great-grandson's school activities, taking sandwiches to the harvest team, peeking out the window to see which friends were visiting, and just being with them.
Esther loved cooking and baking for her family, she especially loved to prepare the family dinners every Sunday. Most recently she lived at Arlington place where she could be found giving the great-grandkids rides on her walker. She was a devout Christian and active member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, IA.
She is survived by her grandson Steve (Hope) Meyer of Grundy Center; granddaughter Sarah Meyer (Brady Scott) of Denver, CO; great-grandkids, Britt & Olivia Meyer, and William Scott; brothers John and Harvey Peters; brother-in-law Harvey Eiklenborg; and many nieces and nephews, great & great-great nieces and nephews; & grand-dog Josie. She was preceded in death by parents, Marie and Jake Peters; her husband of 51 years, James, who passed in 1998; her son, Daryl Meyer, who passed away in 2008; sister, Carrie Eiklenberg, and her cherished grand-dogs Annie and Wrigley.
