Esther V. Bunger Getting, 92, of Grundy Center, Iowa formerly of Eldora, Iowa, died on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 15 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Pastor Jerry Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
Esther was born on a farm in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, on May 19, 1918, the daughter of George and Josephine (Gast) Kramer. On November 20, 1941 she was married to Oldig H. Bunger in San Luis Obispo, California. Post war they returned to Iowa and started their family. Esther worked retail in men's clothing stores and as a seamstress most of her life well into her 80's. 'Ole' died on December 10, 1975. Esther married Wallace Getting on January 25, 1984 in Red Wing, Minnesota. The couple spent 17 years of retirement in Lake City, Minnesota with much of that time spent on their fishing boat named WEKO (Wally, Esther, Katie, Ole) before returning to Grundy Center, Iowa.
Surviving are her children, Allan (Mary Lou) Bunger of Prescott Valley, Arizona and Karla Bunger of San Jose, California; step-children, Sharon Getting of Coral Springs, Florida, Curtis (Tammy) Getting of Waukee, Iowa, and Martin (Cherry) Getting of Grundy Center, Iowa; sister, Darlene Taylor of Eldora; brother, Gerhardt Kramer of Ackley, Iowa; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and 5 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; son, Harlan Bunger; brothers, Harold, Lester, Kenneth and Merle Kramer; and sisters, Helen Luiken and Ruth Moon.
