Emma deNeui

February 9, 1908 — January 4, 2015

Emma deNeui, 106, of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Hospice House of North Iowa in Mason City. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 9:30 A.M. until time of funeral service at 11:00 A.M, at the United Reformed Church, 608 S. Adams St., Wellsburg, Iowa. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg.

Emma was born on February 9, 1908 on the family farm in rural Wellsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of Eike and Trientje (Luppen) Ruter. Emma graduated from Wellsburg High School in the Class of 1928. She then attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Emma then went on to teach for 4 years prior to her marriage to Roy deNeui on February 6, 1935 at the Bethany Presbyterian Home in Dubuque, Iowa. Together they welcomed their daughter Rhoda Evon into their family.

Emma was a longtime member of the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg where she was also a member of the Willing Workers. Emma spent many hours working on jigsaw puzzles, which was her favorite pastime. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and applique quilting. She was also an avid collector of hat pins and shoe button hooks.

Emma is survived by her daughter Rhoda Strasser of Lennox, SD; grandchildren Bryce (Marne) Strasser of Lennox, SD, Brent (Monica) Strasser of Sioux Falls, SD and Karna (David) Parker of Corinth, MS; great-grandchildren Mahli, Abbie, Emily Strasser and Alaina Parker; sister Alice Ruter of Wellsburg, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy; son-in-law Kerwin Strasser; 5 brothers and 7 sisters.
