Emma Bern, 90 of rural Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Salem Church of Lincoln in Lincoln, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the French-hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to the Salem Church of Lincoln.
Emma was born on February 6, 1921 in rural Traer, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Frances (Yuska) Kubik. Emma was raised in Traer and attended grade school at Buckingham. She went on to graduated from Hudson High School. She was united in marriage to Leslie W. Bern on June 1, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They welcomed a daughter, Marlis, into their family.
Emma was a great help to her husband on their family farm. She drove their tractor and assisted him in many aspects of the farm's operation. She loved to cook, bake and sew for her family. She was a long time member of the Salem Church of Lincoln and belonged to the United Women Group of Salem Church. Emma will be missed and long remembered by her friends and family.
Emma is survived by her husband, Leslie; daughter Marlis (Larry) Helland of Reinbeck, IA and granddaughter Lisa Helland (her fiance Matthew Peyton) of Plymouth, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Alba Mareska, Hermenia Dostal and Mary Stanek; brothers Joe, Milo, Frank, Theodore and Edward Kubik.
