Emily J. Ziesman, 96, of Eldora, Iowa, died from natural causes on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Eldora Specialty Care in Eldora, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Eldora United Methodist Church with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Eldora. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Creps-Abels Funeral home in Eldora, Iowa.
Emily was born on November 30, 1919, in Hubbard, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Susie (Layton) Barnhart. She married Harold W.C. Ziesman on February 4, 1941 in Hubbard. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2001.
She grew up on her family farms in Tipton, Jackson, and Ellis Townships and graduated from Owasa High School in 1937. She was employed at the Agricultural Adjustment Administration Office in Iowa Falls until her marriage. She and Harold farmed west of Eldora, their farm becoming an Iowa Century Farm in 1990.
Emily was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and was active in the quilting group. In retirement, she transferred to the First United Methodist Church in Eldora. She assisted with many elections in Pleasant Township and was active in Farm Bureau. The Ziesman farm was always abuzz with activity and Emily loved to have family and friends drop in. She always made sure there was plenty of good food to eat.
Surviving are her children, Lucille Lettow of Cedar Falls, Evelyn Stevenson of Boone, Harold Alan "Bud" Ziesman of Hudson, Lois (Kevin) Scholbrock of Des Moines; son-in-law, Steven W. Seymour of Mosier, OR; nine grandchildren, LCDR Karl (Heather) Lettow of Norfolk, VA, Jeff (Tara) Seymour of Sisters, OR, Travis (Marcy) Stevenson of Boone, Todd (Katie) Seymour of Littleton, CO, Alexi Ziesman of Washburn, Jennifer Stevenson of Boone, Maggie Scholbrock of Des Moines, Eric Ziesman of Hudson, and Jason Scholbrock of Des Moines; eight great grandchildren; and sister, Velma Nichols of Bentonville, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Charlotte Seymour, two sons-in-law, Gary Lettow and Fenner Stevenson, and one brother, Wesley Barnhart.
Memorials may be directed to Eldora First United Methodist Church, with all donations going toward the SUKUP house which will be used as an orphanage in Haiti.
