Elson Hockemeyer, 94, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died from natural causes on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at his son's home in rural Hudson, Iowa. Elson was born July 4, 1914, in New Haven, Indiana to August and Emma (Ehle) Hockemeyer. He was raised and attended school in the New Haven area. He started his farming career in this area. He married Esther Brenneke on March 25, 1940 in Lima, Ohio. They moved to the Reinbeck area on March 1, 1961 where, Elson farmed until retiring. Esther died on February 10, 1984. Elson later married Pauline Jans on December 28, 1985. Pauline died August 4, 1999. While living in the Reinbeck area, he was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church. Elson loved to fish, hunt, travel, farming but most of all he enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by 1 daughter, Lois (Richard) Schuerenberg of Ossian, IN; 2 sons, Glen (Neva) Hockemeyer of Grundy Center, Allen (Mary) Hockemeyer of rural Hudson, and 1 brother, Richard(Marge)Hockemeyer; step-children, Jackie,Jay,Judy, Al,Rick;10 grandchildren, Nancy, Lori, Susan ,Brad ,Kevin, Jeff, Carrie ,Greg, Jill, Staci; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and step - great-grandchildren. Elson was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Esther, his 2nd wife Pauline, two sons, Howard and Vernon; sister- Erlena Bender; brother-Ross Hockemeyer.
