Elsie Guiles, 101, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Thursday, July 7, 2007 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to Elsie's family.
Elsie was born December 15, 1905 near Kirksville, Missouri, daughter of Calva and Bettie (Walters) Ray. She attended South Crawford Country School #12. On December 13, 1923 Elsie was united in marriage to Earl L. Guiles in Eldora. The couple farmed near Green Castle, Missouri until 1926 when they came to Iowa. They spent most of their married lives near Eldora where they also farmed. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. Elsie enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and was also known to have dressed many chickens.
She is survived by her son, Harold Guiles and his wife, Colleen of Union; sister, Bonnie Dixon of Eldora; and by four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband, Earl on February 7, 1965; her parents; daughter, Marie Mairs; and sister, Sophia Moore.
