Elnora Nichols

January 8, 1926 — September 1, 2012

Elnora S. Nichols, 86, of Wellsburg, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center while under Care Initiatives Hospice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012, 11:00 A.M. at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.

Elnora was born on January 8, 1926 in Wellsburg, the daughter of John M. & Bertha (Vanderwerf) Riebkes. On November 24, 1951, Elnora was united in marriage to Clarence "Laddie" Nichols in rural Ackley. The couple welcomed three children into their family. Before moving to California in 1961, Elnora graded eggs at Sentman's store in Wellsburg. Her and her husband bought Larmer's Produce and later sold it to Charlie Loots. After moving to Santa Anna, California, Elnora worked as a cook at a catholic high school for 27 years. In 1994, Elnora returned home to Wellsburg.

Elnora was a member of the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. She was an avid sports fan, who loved Iowa State, the St. Louis Cardinals and the L.A. Lakers. She also enjoyed attending AGWSR sporting events. Elnora enjoyed feeding the birds and enjoyed the flowers planted by her daughter Susan while visiting from California. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter Susan (Larry) Hazuka of Wellsburg and a son Jeff Nichols of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; 3 grandchildren Shawna Chambers-Ramirez, Crista Nichols and Scott Michael Nichols; 1 great-granddaughter Brianna Chambers; sister Anna Mae Deters of Wellsburg; sisters-in-law Carol Riebkes and Edith Lindaman; special friend Mary Dieke. Elnora was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence "Laddie"; son Scott Nichols; sister Francis Neymeyer and brothers Calvin & Marvin Riebkes; special friend for many years Harley Freese.

Elnora wanted to recognize and thank those who helped her throughout her time in Wellsburg and was especially grateful for the continuous help of the Wellsburg Fire Department and the help in her final days with Care Initiatives Hospice.
